AMGB - part 3: the final edition

You guessed it...he did it again!! Jack slept 8.5 hours straight last night (plus another 3 hours after that). I'm hoping and praying that this is a permanent thing (although when he was about 2 months old he had 3 nights like this, then went back to his old ways). I'm not planning on posting about this anymore - you can just assume he's sleeping well :o)

Next big sleep milestone: sleeping 12 hours straight!!

AMGB - part 2

If you didn't catch it from my last post, AMGB stands for "A mom's gotta brag." Jack did it again last night!! He ate around 8:30, asleep in bed by 9:00. He woke up at 5:15 to eat again, then slept til 8:40. That's 8 hours and 45 minutes between feedings! And I'm feelin good :o)

A mom's gotta brag!

I've been told that when your child starts sleeping good or potty training, etc., that you're not supposed to brag to other people about it because then they stop doing it. But I just can't help it! I'm so proud of Jack!

Last night he ate around 8:15 (6.5 oz plus some oatmeal) and went to bed around 8:45. I heard him talking to himself around 12:30, but he didn't cry and he put himself back to sleep! I didn't hear from him again until 5:40 am!!! That's about 9 hours and 45 minutes from when he last ate! I got up and fed him and put him back to bed. Then, he slept some more til 8:15 this morning! I guess it could go without saying, but this mom is well rested! :o)

Night #2

Last night went pretty well, although not quite as well as the night before. Jack woke up once before he would normally eat, so as planned we let him cry. I'm not quite sure how long he cried for because I can't see the clock without my glasses (yes, I'm practically blind). After a while, Luke got up and gave him his paci and he went right back to sleep. He only woke up one more time during the night to eat. Not a bad night!!

A GREAT night!

For about the last month, Jack has been waking up multiple times a night. Not to eat...just to wake up. He was waking up 3-4 times a night and only eating once a night. Usually it's not hard to get him back to sleep. Like, we would have to put the paci in his mouth or pat him on the chest or occasionally pick him up. Luke and I finally decided we were so tired and frustrated that we had to do something about this. Last night we were going to just let him cry and not go in to help him get back to sleep. He must've heard us talking or something because he only woke up one time all night....to eat! Let's just say his mom and dad feel very well rested this morning!! :o)

Jack's All Better!

Jack went back to the doctor today and she told us that his pneumonia is all gone!! YAY!! He also got his second round of vaccinations today. He is not a fan of the shots :(

Length: 26 1/4 inches (90%)
Weight: 15 lb. 6.5 oz. (75%)

Watching how Jack has been through this sickness reminds me of how I am with God. We've had to give him medicine and suck the snot out of his nose. He hated both of them, but we were only doing what's best for him. And he kicked and screamed the whole time. Too often when God's trying to do what's best for me, I kick and scream about it and want to refuse it when I know it will make me better in the end.

Jack's Dedication

On Palm Sunday, we had the privledge of publically dedicating Jack to the Lord at church, something we did in our hearts even before he was born. It was a very special occasion with friends and family.
1 Samuel 1:26-27:
"For this boy I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the LORD; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the LORD..."

This video clip is of Pastor Ferrell saying a few words before praying over Jack. Hope you can hear it!

Pastor Ferrell asked Luke if he had anything he wanted to say. First Luke said, "Thank you in advance." Then he added, "Sorry if Jack acts up in Sunday School." My hubby is so witty on the spot!

All of the family with Jack during the dedication

Us with Pastor Ferrell after the dedication
All those standing with us L-R: Luke's Parents (Grandpa and YaYa), Luke, Jack, Laura, Laura's Parents (MiMi and Paw Paw), Laura's Grandparents (Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa).

Jack's getting better!

I took Jack back to the doctor this morning, and she said his lungs sound good! I mean, not just better...but good!! Praise God for His healing hand on Jack! We go back Monday to be sure that he doesn't "rebound," as the doctor put it, once he's off of the medicine. From this point, we should be in the clear! Praying that he continues to improve and we'll only have good news on Monday! Thanks everyone for praying for our little guy!

A little scare...

Jack has come down with his first cold :( When I (Laura) went in for my doctor's appointments yesterday, my doctor (who is also Jack's doctor) heard him cough and said she needed to listen to his lungs. 3 prescriptions and a chest x-ray later, he's doing ok. We went back to the doctor today and she said that he's not really doing any better (which she didn't really expect), but he's not doing any worse - which is what she was checking for. Whatever he has is viral...possibly a touch of pneumonia. He also might have asthma, but it's too soon to tell. We go back to the doctor tomorrow morning. She said she expects to see a turn-around in the next 24 hours.

We are very thankful that Jack's doing as well as he is. He's got a really nasty sounding cough, but he's happy and alert and playing. The doctor said if he didn't look as good as he does, he would be in the hospital right now. But since he looks good, we can do outpatient care. Our doctor said that if he sounded like this and was 2 years old, it wouldn't be a big deal at all. But since he's so little she's being very cautious.

Please pray that Jack gets better soon!

Meeting Goals!!

It's official! I (Laura) went to the doctor yesterday and I am back at my pre-pregnancy weight!! woo hoooo!! I'm super excited about that; however, my body is VERY different that before pregnancy. I still have some work to do to get the jiggle out of my stomach and my guh-dunk-a-dunk back down to my normal size. The good news is that up until now, I haven't really been trying to loose weight...it's just come off pretty naturally. Hopefully once I start putting in some effort, the rest of me will slim down too! :o)
